Global Economics and History Forum

“The City (or London Business), the Commonwealth, and Europe Past Present & Future” - 3rd June 2016

H&P Global Economics Forum co-founders Andrew Dilley and David Thackeray are to participate in a London Metropolitan Archives event exploring the history of London's trade with Europe and the Commonwealth.

The event: 'The City, Europe, and the Commonwealth: Past, present and future' will be held at the London Metropolitan Archives. Andrew Dilley's current project explores the politics of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the Commonwealth, a key business networking organisation which was led by the London Chamber of Commerce. In line with the themes explored by the Global Economics and History forum, the event considers how historical case studies can inform our understanding of contemporary economic debates.

The event is divided into three sections exploring the responses of the London business community to decolonisation and EEC membership. We then consider how contemporary trade relations in the Commonwealth are informed by these historical experiences.

Participants: Andrew Dilley (Aberdeen), David Thackeray (Exeter), Peter Buckley and Surender Mundal (Leeds).

The event will take place at the London Metropolitan Archives on Friday, 3 June 2016 from 12:30 to 16:30. Tickets are £10 and are available here:
