Dr Alastair Reid

Co-Founder

Alastair Reid is a Life Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge and former Director of Studies in History at Girton College, Cambridge. Alastair co-founded the History & Policy website in 2002 and was one of the founding convenors of the H&P Trade Union Forum.

He has a long-standing interest in new media, collaboration between institutions and communicating history to wider audiences. His special field is the history of industrial relations and trade unions, including their involvement in party politics. His work in this field has always been carried out with an eye on its contemporary implications, with books including United We Stand: A History of Britain's Trade Unions (Penguin, 2005) and The Tide of Democracy: Shipyard Workers and Social Relations in Britain, 1870-1950 (Manchester University Press, 2010).
