On 12th October Dr Niamh Gallagher (St Catherine's College, Cambridge) gave oral evidence to the House of Lords Sub-Committee on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland. The hearing was part of an inquiry into the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill which completed its passage through the House of Commons on 20 July and was presented to the House of Lords the following day. Her invitation to speak followed the publication of her History & Policy paper The misuse of the Good Friday Agreement in Ministerial protests over the Protocol which was covered in the Irish press. You can watch her testimony here and read it via Hansard. She told peers that the Bill would 'break the ethos of the Good Friday agreement' and would have 'destructive impacts' on its various strands.
