How did nationalised industries work over the long twentieth century and what can we learn for possible future models?

There will be three papers:

Professor James Foreman-Peck: 'The rise and fall of the Nationalised Industries as a means of ownership and control'.

Dr Helen Glew: 'The system of Whitley Councils as the employer-employee negotiation machinery in the Civil Service'.

Billy Hayes: 'The challenges of bargaining within a nationalised industry '

Professor James Foreman-Peck is Professor of Economics at Cardiff Business School and Director of the Welsh Institute for Research in Economics and Development. Dr Helen Glew is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Westminster Billy Hayes is a former General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU). All welcome - tickets available at £5 to include a glass of wine.

The History & Policy Trade Union and Employment Forum exists to promote research and communication about trade union history between academic historians and other researchers, and current policy makers and activists.
