The first mini biography of Britain’s 52 Prime Ministers has been published on the History of Government Blog. Dr Andrew Thompson, of Cambridge University, writes about Sir Robert Walpole, often viewed as the first British PM. This series, featuring every PM from Walpole to Gordon Brown, is written by H&P historians from Cambridge University and King's College London. The new bios, succinct and readable, will be published over the coming months. Each describes the major issues facing the PM at the time, his or her successes and failures in office, as well as personal characteristics. The series will offer readers of the History of Government Blog clear analysis and interesting insights into how Britain’s Prime Ministers have ruled across nearly 300 years.
