    Reforming the Civil Service: the Fulton Report, 50 years on

    The Fulton Report appeared in 1968 and was critical of the culture and philosophy of the Civil Service - two historians of civil service reform and a former Head of the Civil Service discuss the Report and its legacy.

    Hear an analysis of the recently gathered gender pay reports from large companies by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, as we discuss why, with Equal Pay Laws and House of Commons Resolutions in place, there is still a gender pay gap in Britain.

    A divided democracy? Everyday politics, citizenship and social change in Britain since 1918

    Political disengagement, a lack of respect for governing institutions, and a gulf between elite and popular understandings of key political issues - are these uniquely modern issues? Often our assumptions about greater political engagement and awareness in the past are inaccurate or unfounded. 

    Professor Adrian Bingham and Dr Tom Dowling will present research drawing on unpublished material from the Conservative Party and Labour Party archives, historical polling data, social science surveys, and life writing, in this session suitable for politicians, party activists, pollsters, campaign groups and journalists.
